Dallas Cowboys Trade Rumors Dak Prescott

Cowboys and Dak Prescott Hit Stalemate in Contract Negotiations

Subheadline: Uncertainty Looms over Quarterback's Future in Dallas

Cowboys Face Pressing Deadline as Franchise Tag Option Expires

After expressing initial optimism, the Dallas Cowboys and quarterback Dak Prescott have reached an impasse in contract extension negotiations, leaving Prescott's future in Dallas uncertain.

Prescott, who is set to become a free agent after the 2023 season, cannot be franchise-tagged again by the Cowboys and has a no-trade clause in his current contract. This limits the team's options for retaining the 29-year-old signal-caller.

The Cowboys opened the offseason with a positive outlook on extending Prescott, who has led the team to the playoffs in four of his six seasons as a starter. However, recent reports suggest that the two sides are apart on financial terms and the length of the contract.

Prescott is reportedly seeking a salary in line with the top quarterbacks in the league, while the Cowboys are concerned about committing to a long-term deal for a player who has missed significant games due to injuries.

Cowboys wide receiver Michael Gallup recently stated that he believes Prescott is fully recovered from his thumb injury and is ready to return to form. However, the ongoing contract negotiations could cast a shadow over Prescott's upcoming season and the team's long-term plans.

The Cowboys have until the start of the new league year in March to reach an agreement with Prescott. If they fail to do so, the quarterback will enter the open market and could potentially sign with another team.
